L.S. 327.693 Regolamenti tal-Kors għall-Pre-Tertiary Certificate in Dental Surgery Assistance

(1)These regulations may be cited as the Pre-Tertiary Certificate in Dental Surgery Assistance Course Regulations.

(2)In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires Citation and Interpretation. Amended by: L.N. 310 of

1. “the Board” means the Board of the Faculty of Dental Surgery; “the Board of Studies” means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the Course, on the recommendation of the Board; “the Certificate” means the Pre-Tertiary Certificate in Dental Surgery Assistance; and “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the PreTertiary Certificate in Dental Surgery Assistance.
2. These regulations shall be applicable for courses commencing in October 2023 or later. Applicability. 3.

(1)In order to be admitted into the Course, applicants shall be in possession of: Requirements for Admission. either (

1. a)passes in the Secondary Education Certificate Examination at Grade 5 or better in the following: (
2. i)any TWO subjects from English Language, Mathematics, or Maltese; and (
3. ii)any ONE subject from Chemistry or Biology; and (iii) any other subject; or (
4. b)the MCAST Diploma in Applied Science; or (
5. c)the MCAST-BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care.

(2)Subject to approval by the Board, the Course may be open also to applicants who are nominated by GCHSS, provided that such applicants satisfy the requirements for admissions indicated in paragraph

(1)of this regulation. 2 [ S.L. 327.693 PRE-TERTIARY CERTIFICATE IN DENTAL SURGERY ASSISTANCE COURSE 4.

(1)Applicants considered as “Adult Learners” (mature applicants) in terms of paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the Board that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit. Such applicants shall be required to submit with their application a letter written in English giving their motivation for applying for this Course together with a copy of their Curriculum Vitae (C.V.).

(2)The eligibility of applicants referred to in paragraph

(1)of this regulation shall be decided by the Board, following an interview conducted by a board appointed for the purpose.

(3)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members. 5. Prior to enrolling for the Course, accepted applicants shall be required to undergo an occupational health assessment as detailed in the Occupational Health Protocol approved by the Board, so as to ascertain that they are fit for the duties related to their proposed studies. Students who do not fulfil this requirement shall be barred from attending the clinical placements indicated in the programme of study for the Course. Course Duration. 6.

(1)The Course shall extend over a period of two semesters of full-time study.

(2)The Board of Studies may allow students who do not qualify for the Certificate to repeat the Course once only. Programme of Study. Renumbered by: L.N. 310 of 2023. 7.

(1)The Course shall consist of a number of taught and practical study-units to which a total of 60 ECTS credits are assigned.

(2)The programme of study shall be drawn up by the Board of Studies and published by the Board, after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the Course.

(3)Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study for the Course. Attendance, Assessment and Progress Renumbered by: L.N. 310 of 2023. 8.

(1)Unless otherwise specified in the description of a study-unit, attendance for lectures, tutorials, seminars, practicals, or any other teaching session, is obligatory. On the basis of documented evidence, a lecturer may bar a student whose attendance in a studyunit is not satisfactory from being assessed in the study-unit.

(2)The method of assessment of each study-unit shall be indicated in the study-unit description. The assessment of each study- PRE-TERTIARY CERTIFICATE IN DENTAL SURGERY ASSISTANCE COURSE [ S.L. 327.693 3 unit shall be completed by the end of the semester in which the teaching of the study-unit is held, in accordance with the instructions issued by the Board of Studies.

(3)Results for the assessment of study-units shall be published as a percentage mark and grade as indicated in the table below: Mark Range Grade 90% - 100% A+ 80% - 89% A 75% - 79% B+ 70% - 74% B 60% - 69% C+ 55% - 59% C 50% - 54% D+ 45% - 49% D 0% - 44% F. Both the percentage mark and the grade shall be recorded in the students’ academic record.

1. In the September assessment session, students shall only be eligible to be assessed in Incomplete Study-Units, whether due to failure or absence, to which not more than a total of 20 ECTS credits are assigned. Renumbered by: L.N. 310 of

(1)Students shall be considered as having successfully completed the Course if they obtain all the credits indicated in regulation 8 of these regulations. Award of the Certificate. Renumbered by: L.N. 310 of 2023.

(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order. 11. In matters not provided for by these regulations, the Board shall be guided by the provisions of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019, published as Legal Notice 248 of 2019, as applicable.
