(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws of for the Degree of Bachelor in Orchestral Practice (Honours) under the auspices of the School of Performing Arts in collaboration with the Malta Philarmonic Orchestra.

(2)Citation and Interpretation. In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - “the Board” means the Board of the School of Performing Arts; “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the degree of Bachelor in Orchestral Practice (Honours); “the Degree” means the degree of Bachelor in Orchestral Practice (Honours); “the Diploma” means the Diploma in Orchestral Practice; and “the Principal Regulations” means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019. 2. These bye-laws shall be commencing in October 2022 or later. 3.

(2)applicable for courses

(1)The Course shall be open to applicants who: (

1. a)satisfy the requirements for admission as specified in the Admissions Regulations of the University and are in possession of a Grade 8 in Music (Theory and Practice) from recognized examining boards; or (
2. b)are in possession of a qualification comprising not less than 120 ECVET credits or equivalent, classified at MQF Level 4, as well as passes in the Secondary Education Certificate Examination at Grade 5 or better in English Language, Maltese and Mathematics, and a pass at Grade 8 in Music (Theory and Practice) from recognized examining boards. Applicants referred to in paragraph

(1)of this bye-law Applicability. Special Course Requirements for Admission. 2 [ S.L. 327.663 DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY – PH.D. - shall be nominated by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, following a selection process for the recruitment of musicians for the Malta Youth Orchestra which shall be conducted by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. Course Duration.

1. The Course shall extend over three years of full-time study or five years of part-time study. Programme of Study.
2. The programme of study, which shall comprise studyunits to which 180 ECTS credits are assigned, shall be published after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of each Course. Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study for the Degree, provided that the programme of study shall be drawn up in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Principal Regulations.
3. Students who successfully complete study-units to which 60 ECTS credits are assigned, and opt not to proceed with the Course, or having proceeded, do not successfully complete the Course, shall be entitled to the Diploma.
4. Students shall be eligible for the award of the Degree if they obtain the 180 ECTS credits as outlined in the programme of study for the Course. Classification of the Awards. 8.

(1)The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Degree shall be based on the results obtained during the Course, which shall be weighted as follows: First Year Average Mark 30% Second Year Average Mark 30% Third Year Average Mark 40%

(2)The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in successfully completed study-units. Special Provisions for Part-Time Courses. 9. The provisions of the foregoing bye-laws shall apply mutatis mutandis to courses followed on a part-time basis, and subject to such changes as may reasonably be deemed by the Board of Studies as necessary due to the part-time nature of the Course.
