PRE-TERTIARY CERTIFICATE IN AGRICULTURE UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE INSTITUTE OF EARTH SYSTEMS [ S.L. 327.742 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 327.742 BYE-LAWS FOR THE PRE-TERTIARY CERTIFICATE IN AGRICULTURE UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE INSTITUTE OF EARTH SYSTEMS 11th September, 2024 LEGAL NOTICE 25 of 2021. 1.
(1)These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws for the Pre-Tertiary Certificate in Agriculture under the auspices of the Institute of Earth Systems.
(2)Citation and Interpretation In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires - “the Board” means the Board of the Institute of Earth Systems; “the Board of Studies” means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the Course, on the recommendation of the Board; “the Certificate” means the Pre-Tertiary Certificate in Agriculture; and “the Course” means the programme of study leading to the PreTertiary Certificate in Agriculture. 2. These bye-laws shall be commencing in October 2024 or later. applicable for courses 3.
(1)In order to be admitted into the Course, applicants shall be in possession of passes in the Secondary Education Certificate Examination at Grade 5 or better in the following: (
- i)any TWO subjects from English Language, Mathematics, or Maltese; and (
- ii)any ONE subject from Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Studies, Agribusiness, Geography, Physics, Economics, Business Studies or Information Technology; and (iii) any other subject.
(2)Subject to the approval of the Board, applicants not in possession of the qualifications indicated in paragraph
(1)of this bye-law but in possession of other qualifications in an area of study related to Agriculture may also be considered.
(3)Applicants considered as “Adult Learners” (mature Applicability Requirements for Admission 1 2 [ S.L. 327.742 PRE-TERTIARY CERTIFICATE IN AGRICULTURE UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE INSTITUTE OF EARTH SYSTEMS applicants) in terms of paragraph (c) of regulation 6 of the Admissions Regulations must be in possession of those qualifications and/or experience that would satisfy the Board that they have reached the academic standard required to follow the Course with profit. Such applicants shall be required to submit with their application a letter written in English giving their motivation for applying for this Course together with a copy of their Curriculum Vitae (C.V.).
(4)The eligibility of applicants referred to in paragraphs
(2)and
(3)of this bye-law shall be decided by the Board, following an interview conducted by a board appointed for the purpose.
(5)The interviewing board appointed by the Board shall be composed of at least three members. Course Duration 4.
(1)The Course shall extend over a period of one semester of full-time study or two semesters of part-time study.
(2)The Board of Studies may allow students who do not qualify for the Certificate to repeat the Course only once. Programme of Study 5.
(1)The programme of study shall consist of studyunits to which 30 ECTS credits shall be assigned.
(2)Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study. Award of the Certificate 6.
(1)Students shall be considered as having successfully completed the Course if they obtain all the credits indicated in byelaw 5 of these bye-laws.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order.
