(1)These regulations may be cited as the Pre-Tertiary Certificate in Policing Course Regulations. Citation and Interpretation
(2)In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires"the Board" means the Board of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing; "the Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the Course, on the recommendation of the Board; "the Certificate" means the Pre-Tertiary Certificate in Policing awarded jointly by the University and the Partner Institution; "the Course" means the programme of study leading to the PreTertiary Certificate in Policing, developed and delivered jointly with the Partner Institution; "the Partner Institution" means the Academy for Disciplined Forces; "the Senate" means the Senate of the University of Malta; and "the University" means the University of Malta. 2. These regulations shall be applicable for courses commencing in October 2025 or later. Applicability 3.
(1)To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants shall be in possession of: Requirements for Admission either (
- a)passes in the Secondary Education Certificate level at Grade 5 or better or at SEC Level 3 in four subjects which must include English Language and Maltese; or (
- b)a qualification at MQF Level 3 in a subject related to policing, which the Board deems as appropriate. 4. All applicants shall be members of the Malta Police Force and shall be nominated to the Course by the Commissioner of Police. 5. The Course shall extend over three semesters of full-time Course Duration 2 [ S.L. 327.762] PRE-TERTIARY CERTIFICATE IN POLICING COURSE REGULATIONS study which shall include the summer period. Board of Studies 6. The general and academic administration of the Course shall be entrusted to a Board of Studies which shall include representatives from the Partner Institution. Programme of Study 7.
(1)The programme of study shall consist of taught study-units to which 60 ECTS credits shall be assigned and a practical study-unit to which 30 ECTS credits shall be assigned
(2)The programme of study shall be drawn up by the Board of Studies and published by the Board, after approval by Senate, normally not less than eight months prior to the commencement of the Course.
(3)Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study for the Course. Attendance, Assessment and Progress 8.
(1)Unless otherwise specified in the description of a study-unit, attendance for lectures, tutorials, seminars, practicals, or any other teaching session, is obligatory. On the basis of documented evidence, a lecturer may bar a student whose attendance in a studyunit is not satisfactory from being assessed in the study-unit.
(2)The method of assessment of each study-unit shall be indicated in the study-unit description. The assessment of each studyunit shall be completed by the end of the semester in which the teaching of the study-unit is held, in accordance with the instructions issued by the Board of Studies.
(3)Results for the assessment of study-units shall be published as a percentage mark and grade as indicated in the table below: Mark Range Grade 90% - 100% A+ 80% - 89% A 75% - 79% B+ 70% - 74% B 60% - 69% C+ 55% - 59% C 50% - 54% D+ PRE-TERTIARY CERTIFICATE IN POLICING COURSE REGULATIONS 45% - 49% D 0% - 44% F. [ S.L. 327.762] Both the percentage mark and the grade shall be recorded in the students’ academic record. 9.
(1)In the September assessment session, students shall only be eligible to be assessed in incomplete taught study-units, whether due to failure or absence, to which not more than a total of 20 ECTS credits are assigned.
(2)Students who fail to obtain a pass in any component of the practical study-unit, shall be required to sit for any failed component during the period specified by the Partner Institution. Students who, following resit, fail to obtain an overall pass in the practical studyunit shall be offered the opportunity of repeating the study-unit with the next cohort of students. 10.
(1)The Certificate shall be awarded to students who obtain the 90 ECTS credits indicated in regulation 7.
(2)The names of students who qualify for the award of the Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order. Award of the Certificate 3
