RECOGNITION OF ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS (PERITI) [ S.L.390.04 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 390.04 RECOGNITION OF ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS (PERITI) REGULATIONS * 15th February, 2002 LEGAL NOTICE 39 of 2002. 1. The title of these regulations is the Recognition of Academic Qualifications (Periti) Regulations. 2. In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires: "Act" means the Architecture and Civil Engineering Professionals (Periti) Act; Citation. Definitions. Cap. 390. "Board" means the Bord tal-Warrant tal-Periti, established by article 6 of the Act; "warrant" and "warrant holder" have the same meaning as is assigned to them in article 5 of the Act. 3. The academic qualifications obtained by a person who applies to the Board to be granted the warrant shall cover the basic subjects listed in the Schedule. The subjects are listed in the first column. These are described in the second column whilst the minimum duration of time dedicated to these subjects during the course of studies is listed in the third column. *Repealed by Article 30 of Act XIII of 2021 (Cap. 622). Academic qualifications. 1 2 [ S.L.390.04 RECOGNITION OF ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS (PERITI) SCHEDULE (Regulation 3) CORE SUBJECTS FOR PERSONS WHO APPLY FOR THE WARRANT TO PRACTICE AS ARCHITECT AND CIVIL ENGINEER (PERIT) The applicant for the warrant to practice as an Architect and Civil Engineer (Perit) has to satisfy the Board that he has followed courses at University level over a period of not less than four years full-time or the part-time equivalent in the following areas of studies and of a duration not less than that indicated. The time allocated per subject area refers to contact hours and is to include lectures, tutorials, seminars, design sessions, site visits but excludes private study and practical experience in design offices or construction sites. Subject Area Description Studio-based project Advanced studies in the observation and modelling of works the environment, graphic thinking and techniques. The ability to design in detail a building or a civil engineering structure involving the integration of spatial, structural, constructional and environmental control sub-systems. At least twenty per cent of the time ahocated should be devoted to each of the following disciplines: (
- a)architectural design, (
- b)structural design, and (
- c)constructional details and environmental control of buildings. Architectural Studies History and theory of architecture and urbanism, landscape and urban design, theory of design, and related subjects. Structural Systems Studies of the fundamental concepts relating to structural forms, elements, materials and assemblies and their behaviour. Mathematical techniques of structural analysis including the analysis of statically determinate and indeterminate structures. The design of masonry, reinforced and prestressed concrete and steel structures. Building Engineering A knowledge of the materials commonly used in construction, their properties, and the processes of their production and assembly. Detailed review of the technology involved in the assembly of components to achieve serviceable, commodious and functional buildings and structures. A knowledge of the key concepts of environmental design theory and practice. Building physics including the principles and analytic techniques relating to the thermal properties of buildings, heat transfer, ventilation and thermal comfort, the natural and artificial lighting of buildings, the control of the sonic environment. Basic knowledge of building services including piped services, electric installations, heating, cooling and ventilation installations, communications equipment, etc. Professional Practice Competence in the principles and techniques of construction management. A knowledge of planning and building laws, regulations and institutional structures addressed to environmental and building issues. Land and building economics including the principles of estimates and valuations. The preparation of contract documents. The environmental design professional in society: ethics, indemnity, liability, professional organizations. Courses in subjects required to provide an adequate base for mandatory studies, including mathematics, computer applications, etc. Areas of study which are not directly related to environmental design, but which can be of benefit for the cultural, social and general intellectual development of a person and its role in society.
