ACCEPTANCE OF PURE-BRED BREEDING ANIMALS OF THE BOVINE SPECIES FOR BREEDING PURPOSES [ S.L.437.05 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 437.05 ACCEPTANCE OF PURE-BRED BREEDING ANIMALS OF THE BOVINE SPECIES FOR BREEDING PURPOSES REGULATIONS * 7th October, 2003 LEGAL NOTICE 283 of 2003, as amended by Legal Notice 117 of 2007. 1.
(1)The title of these regulations is the Acceptance of PureBred Breeding Animals of the Bovine Species for Breeding Purposes Regulations. Title and scope.
(2)The scope of these regulations is to implement the rules found under European Union Council Directive 87/328/EEC on the acceptance for breeding purposes of pure-bred breeding animals of the bovine species. 2. The Minister responsible for veterinary affairs shall ensure that, without prejudice to animal health rules, there is no prohibition, restriction or impediment on: (
- a)the acceptance of pure-bred female animals of the bovine species for breeding purposes; (
- b)the acceptance of pure-bred bulls for natural service; and Acceptance of pure-bred female animals for breeding purposes and pure-bred bulls for natural service. Substituted by: L.N. 117 of 2007. (
- c)the use of ova and embryos from pure-bred female animals of the bovine species. 3.
(1)In the territory of Malta the following is not prohibited, restricted or impeded: (
- a)the acceptance for official testing of pure-bred bulls or the use of their semen within the limits of the quantities necessary for approved organisations or associations to carry out such official tests; (
- b)the acceptance for artificial insemination within its territory of pure-bred bulls or the use of their semen when those bulls have been accepted for artificial insemination in a Member State on the basis of tests carried out in accordance with European Union Council Directive 86/130/EEC or corresponding rules in Member States.
(2)Where implementation of these provisions would give rise to disputes, particularly with regard to interpretation of the tests, operators shall have the right to seek the opinion of an expert. In the light of the expert’s opinion, measures may them be adopted. *These Regulations have been repealed by Legal Notice 11 of

- ACCEPTANCE OF PURE-BRED BREEDING ANIMALS OF THE BOVINE SPECIES FOR BREEDING PURPOSES
- In the territory of Malta the use of pure-race bulls and their semen referred to in regulation 3 is subject to identification of the bulls concerned by analysis of the blood group or by any other appropriate method adopted in accordance to the requirements of the European Community and according to the procedure of article 34(a) of the Veterinary Services Act. - The Minister responsible for veterinary affairs shall ensure that, for intra-Community trade, the semen referred to in regulation 3 is collected, processed and stored in a collection centre or, if need be, in a storage centre, approved in accordance with Council Directive 88/407/EEC f 14th June, 1988, laying down the animal health requirements applicable to intra-Community trade in and imports of semen of domestic animals of the bovine species. Reference centres designated by the European Community.
- The European Community shall designate one or more reference centres as being responsible for collaborating in the harmonisation of the testing methods and of the assessment of the results.
