[ S.L.441.01 LOCAL LACE INDUSTRY 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 441.01 LOCAL LACE INDUSTRY REGULATIONS 2nd February, 1938 GOVERNMENT NOTICE 55 of 1938, as amended by Government Notice 312 of 1938, and GOVERNMENT NOTICE 442 of 1946, consolidated. 1. The title of these regulations is Local Lace Industry Regulations. Title. 2.
(1)No person may, without the licence granted to him by the Commissioner of Police, deal in articles of lace, whether by wholesale or by retail. Licence.
(2)A licence granted under the provisions of article 194 of the Code of Police Laws, shall not be deemed to authorise the licensee to deal in articles of lace, unless it is so expressly stated in the licence. Cap.
- The licence, if granted in respect of a shop or place of business, shall be exhibited in a frame in a prominent place in such a shop or place of business. Intinerant vendors shall carry their licence whenever they are engaged in their trade and shall produce it on demand to any officer of the Police. Exhibition of licence.
- A printed copy of these Regulations shall be exhibited in a frame in a conspicuous part of any shop or place of business in respect of which a licence to deal in articles of lace has been issued. Exhibition of printed copy of these Regulations.
- Any person licensed to deal in articles of lace may, on application to the Director of Trade, have such articles of lace which are manufactured in Malta or Gozo, from linen or cotton thread, labelled with the official label. Application to the Director of Trade.
- The labels described in the Schedule to these Regulations shall be the only authorised labels to denote that an article of lace which is manufactured in Malta or Gozo is made of linen or cotton thread, as the case may be, and such labels may be affixed only by the Director of Trade or his representative. - A circular label, three point eight centimetres in diameter with scalloped border-light red ground with white Maltese Cross in the centre and the words “Malta Lace” and “Linen” in white lettering above and below the Maltese Cross respectively, and the words “Inspected by the Government of Malta” round the border also in white letters.
- A circular label, three point eight centimetres in diameter with scalloped border-blue ground with red Maltese Cross in the centre and the words “Malta Lace” and “Cotton” in red letters above and below the Maltese Cross respectively and the words “Inspected by the Government of Malta” round the border also in red letters.
- Specimen of the official labels may be seen on application at the office of Director of Trade, 2, Lascaris Wharf, Valletta.
