NATIONAL MUSEUMS, SITES AND COLLECTIONS (ADMISSION FEES) [ S.L.445.05 1 SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION 445.05 NATIONAL MUSEUMS, SITES AND COLLECTIONS (ADMISSION FEES) REGULATIONS 1st November, 2004; 22nd May, 2010 LEGAL NOTICE 446 of 2004, as amended by Legal Notices 426 of 2007, 160 of 2009, 27 of 2013 and 58 of 2014 and Act XXIX of

  1. The title of these regulations is the National Museums, Sites and Collections (Admission Fees) Regulations.
  2. In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires: "the Act" means the Cultural Heritage Act; "Heritage Malta" means the operating agency established in terms of article 8 of the Act; Title. Interpretation. Amended by: L.N. 160 of

  4. "international student and youth card holders" means those persons who present the International Student Identification Card (ISIC), or Euro‹26, or are members of the International Committee of Museums (ICOM) or of the International Committee of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS); "the Minister" means the Minister responsible for museums, sites and collections; "museums, sites and collections" means the museums, sites and collections contained in the Schedule I; "public holiday" shall have the same meaning as is assigned to it by the National Holidays and other Public Holidays Act. 3.

(1)There shall be a fee, as established in these regulations, for each person of eighteen years of age and over for admission on any weekday, including Saturdays and Sundays, to all museums, sites, and collections in Malta and Gozo: Provided that: (
  1. a)a discounted rate of the ticket price depending on the site shall be charged to persons who are aged sixty and over and to persons between the ages of twelve and seventeen years, both ages included; Cap. 252.   2. b)a further discounted rate of the ticket price depending on the site shall be charged to persons between the ages of six and eleven years, both ages included; (
  3. c)international student or youth card holders and students of any institution established under the Education Act may be admitted with the admission fee mentioned in paragraph (a).
(2)The fees for admission to the Domus Romana, Tarxien Temples, the Inquisitor’s Palace and the National War Museum in Valletta shall be as follows: (
  1. a)six euro (€6) for each person of eighteen years and Cap. 605. 2 [ S.L.445.05 NATIONAL MUSEUMS, SITES AND COLLECTIONS (ADMISSION FEES) over; (
  2. b)four euro and fifty cents (€4.50) for each person aged sixty and over and for persons between the ages of twelve and seventeen years, both ages included; (
  3. c)three euro (€3) for each person between the ages of six and eleven years, both ages included.
(3)The fees for admission to the Natural History Museum, Għar Dalam Cave and Museum, St. Paul’s Catacombs, the Malta Maritime Museum, the National Museum of Fine Arts and the National Museum of Archaeology shall be as follows: (
  1. a)five euro (€5) for each person of eighteen years and over; (
  2. b)three euro and fifty cents (€3.50) for each person aged sixty and over and for persons between the ages of twelve and seventeen years, both ages included; (
  3. c)two euro and fifty cents (€2.50) for each person between the ages of six and eleven years, both ages included.
(4)The fees for joint admission to the Palace Armoury and Palace State Rooms shall be as follows: (
  1. a)ten euro (€10) for each person of eighteen years and over; (
  2. b)seven euro (€7) for each person aged sixty and over and for persons between the ages of twelve and seventeen years, both ages included; (
  3. c)five euro (€5) for each person between the ages of six and eleven years, both ages included: Provided that if admission to the Palace State Rooms is not possible, single admission to the Palace Armoury shall be charged as follows: (
  4. i)six euro (€6) for each person of eighteen years and over; (
  5. ii)four euro and fifty cents (€4.50) for each person aged sixty and over and for persons between the ages of twelve and seventeen years, both ages included; (iii) three euro (€3) for each person between the ages of six and eleven years, both ages included.
(5)The fees for joint admission to all the Cittadella Museums (Old Prison, Natural Science, Archaeology and Folklore), Gozo shall be as follows: (
  1. a)eight euro (€8) for each person of eighteen years and over; (
  2. b)five euro (€5) for each person aged sixty and over and for persons between the ages of twelve and seventeen years, both ages included; (
  3. c)four euro (€4) for each person between the ages of six NATIONAL MUSEUMS, SITES AND COLLECTIONS (ADMISSION FEES) [ S.L.445.05 and eleven years, both ages included.
(6)The fees for joint admission to the Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra Temples, shall be as follows: (
  1. a)ten euro (€10) for each person of eighteen years and over; (
  2. b)seven euro and fifty cents (€7.50) for each person aged sixty and over and for persons between the ages of twelve and seventeen years, both ages included; (
  3. c)five euro and fifty cents (€5.50) for each person between the ages of six and eleven years, both ages included.
(7)The fees for joint admission to the Ġgantija Temples and Ta’ Kola Windmill, Gozo, shall be as follows: (
  1. a)nine euro (€9) for each person of eighteen years and over; (
  2. b)seven euro (€7) for each person aged sixty and over and for persons between the ages of twelve and seventeen years, both ages included; (
  3. c)five euro (€5) for each person between the ages of six and eleven years, both ages included.
(8)The fees for admission to the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum shall be as follows: (
  1. a)thirty euro (€30) for each person of eighteen years and over for all the daily tours excluding the tours at noon (12pm) and at four in the afternoon (4pm); (
  2. b)thirty-five euro (€35) for each person of eighteen years and over for the daily tours at noon (12pm) and at four in the afternoon (4pm); (
  3. c)fifteen euro (€15) for each person aged sixty and over and for persons between the ages of twelve and seventeen years, both ages included; and (
  4. d)twelve euro (€12) for each person between the ages of six and eleven years, both ages included.
(9)The fees for admission to the Ta’ Ħaġrat Temples, Skorba Te m p l e s , S a n P a w l M i l q i , B o r ġ i n - N a d u r a n d Ta ’ M i n t n a Catacombs, Tas-Silġ Archaeological Site, Salina Catacombs, the Għajn Tuffieħa Roman Baths, the Tad-Dejr Catacombs and the Xagħra Stone Circle in Gozo shall be as follows: (
  1. a)five euro (€5) for each person of eighteen years and over; (
  2. b)three euro and fifty cents (€3.50) for each person aged sixty and over and for persons between the ages of twelve and seventeen years, both ages included; (
  3. c)two euro and fifty cents (€2.50) for each person between the ages of six and eleven years, both ages included: Provided that due to the variance in demand for 3 4 [ S.L.445.05 NATIONAL MUSEUMS, SITES AND COLLECTIONS (ADMISSION FEES) visits to the sites mentioned in this sub-regulation, the entrance fee to such sites may be increased by an administrative fee as may be established by Heritage Malta and which may vary according to the number of visitors visiting the site together. Fees for single-site entrance. Amended by: L.N. 426 of 2007. Substituted by: L.N. 160 of 2009. 4. The following admission fees shall be charged to tour operators only for single-site entrance to museums, sites and collections in Malta and Gozo: (
  4. a)a single-site ticket for the Ġgantija Temples, shall be charged at a fee of six euro (€6) for each person of any age group discounted at 30%; (
  5. b)a single-site ticket for the Palace Armoury or Palace State Rooms or Ħaġar Qim or Mnajdra Temples, shall be charged at a fee of six (€6) for each person, of any age group, discounted at 30%. Admission by appointment. Amended by: L.N. 160 of 2009. 5. Admission to the museums, sites and collections listed in S c h e d u l e I s h a l l o n l y b e b y a p p o i n t m e n t w i t h t h e o ff i c e r s designated by Heritage Malta, other than the payment of the relative admission fee. Fees chargeable during opening hours. 6. For the purposes of these regulations the fees mentioned in these regulations are chargeable by Heritage Malta during the opening hours of the museums, sites and collections as stipulated by Heritage Malta from time to time. Group admission tickets. Amended by: L.N. 160 of 2009. 7.
(1)Notwithstanding any other provision in these regulations, Heritage Malta may issue to any licensed tour operator organising a group of five persons or over and led by a licensed guide, group admission tickets for admission at a discounted rate to all museums, sites and collections in Malta and Gozo except the }al Saflieni Hypogeum, Paola.
(2)Such group discounted admission tickets, as are referred to in subregulation
(1), shall (
  1. a)be purchased prior to the visit, from the Heritage Malta Head Office; (
  2. b)entitle the licensed tour operator for a rate discounted by thirty per cent of the adult ticket price; (
  3. c)be made available to each member of the group who will be required to hand over the counterfoil to the officer in charge at the museum, site or collection, and retain the ticket while on site, as provided in regulation 12.
(3)(
  1. a)Notwithstanding any other provision of these regulations, Heritage Malta may issue group admission tickets to any licensed tour operator, organising a group of five persons or over and led by a licensed guide, for admission at a discounted rate to all museums, sites and collections in Malta and Gozo except the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum. (
  2. b)Such group discounted admission tickets as mentioned in paragraph (
  3. a)shall: NATIONAL MUSEUMS, SITES AND COLLECTIONS (ADMISSION FEES) [ S.L.445.05 5 (
  4. i)be purchased prior to the visit as instructed from time to time by Heritage Malta; (
  5. ii)entitle the licensed tour operator for a rate discounted by 30% of the adult ticket price relative to single site tickets only; (iii) be made available to the tourist guide who will be required to hand over the necessary electronic ticket to the officer in charge at the museum, site or collection while retaining the electronic ticket on site as provided in regulation 12. 8. On the occasion of the organisation of exhibitions or events within its museums and sites, Heritage Malta may levy a charge for the period of the exhibition or event. This charge may be reflected either in an increase in the entrance fee to the museum or site, or else by charging a separate fee for the exhibition or event. Levying of charge for period of exhibition, etc. 9. Museums, sites and collections shall be kept closed on Good Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, unless otherwise authorised by Heritage Malta. Closing of museums on public holidays. 10. Notwithstanding anything contained in these regulations, no admission fee to the museums, sites and collections shall be charged regarding persons who are five years of age and under. For health and safety reasons, no person who is five years of age and under shall be admitted to the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum. Persons under five years of age. Amended by: L.N. 160 of 2009. 11.
(1)Heritage Malta may charge a discounted fee for admission to any of the museums, sites and collections to - Discounted fees. (
  1. a)organised parties of students attending school or other educational institutions, or attending an informal educational programme conducted by a responsible person; (
  2. b)organised parties of members of scientific or cultural societies and organisations.
(2)Heritage Malta may grant free of charge access to any of the museums, sites and collections for the purpose of scientific study, research or restoration.
(3)Heritage Malta may grant free of charge access to any of the museums, sites and collections on particular days in order to further promote such sites. 12.
(1)Any person entering any of the museums, sites and collections is to hand over the counterfoil of the ticket to the officer in charge of the museum, site or collection, and to retain the ticket for the duration of the visit.
(2)Without prejudice to subregulation
(3), failure to hand over the counterfoil, for whatever reason, entails the payment of the full fee due for a visit to that site by that person and an administrative penalty equivalent to five times the value of the ticket may also be charged
(3)If this failure takes place with regard to a group admission ticket as provided in regulation 7, payment of the fee and the 6 [ S.L.445.05 NATIONAL MUSEUMS, SITES AND COLLECTIONS (ADMISSION FEES) administrative penalty should be due by the licensed tour operator or by the leader of the group on site, at the discretion of Heritage Malta.
