BOATMEN’S FEES ACT
To make provision for the levying of a fee in respect of passengers not
making use of dg]ajsas.

The short title of this Act is the Boatmen’s Fees Act.

"hired means of conveyance" † includes any boat or other craft
provided by the agent himself or belonging to the ship on or from
which the passengers embark or disembark;
"Minister" means the Minister under whose jurisdiction the
Customs Department may, from time to time, be.
3. (1) From the day on which this Act shall come into force,
the agent of every ship carrying passengers to or from Malta shall
pay into the Office of the Comptroller of Customs a fee of four
cents (0.04) in respect of each passenger embarking on or
disembarking from the ship by any hired means of conveyance
other than a licensed dg]ajsa.
(2) This fee shall not exceed eight cents (0.08) during one
whole day.

(3) The provisions of this article shall not apply to ships
carrying passengers between Malta and Gozo.
4.
The moneys accruing from the payment of the fees referred
to in the last preceding article shall be administered by the
Comptroller of Customs who shall pay the same, with such
deductions as the Minister may direct, to the boatmen licensed to
ply their trade in the Grand Harbour and Marsamxett Harbour, in
accordance with regulations made by the Minister under article 5.

5. (1) The Minister may make regulations in regard to any
matter coming within the scope of this Act.

(2) In particular, but without prejudice to the generality of the
foregoing power, such regulations may prescribe the manner in
which the agent shall collect the fees to be paid by him into the
Office of the Comptroller of Customs and the manner in which such
fees shall be paid and distributed to the boatmen.
